Every Friday of the year, from 10 am to 6 pm on the Spui square, in the city center of Amsterdam, you can visit “Boekenmarkt Op Het Spui”, a book market where you can find old, rare, second hand and out-of-print books.

The location of this market is privileged, Spui square is situated in the heart of Amsterdam. Therefore, this place has become the most popular destination in Amsterdam for book lovers. In addition to the book market, in this square and its surroundings there are several libraries, including some specializing in English literature.

For more than 20 years, about 25 booksellers from around the country bring their books to the square and hundreds of tourists and Amsterdammers visit the market week after week, attracted by the atmosphere, quality and charm of this small market. Historical, fiction, travel, biography….. in English, Dutch, German, French also Spanish and Italian… books on almost every subject can be found in this market, and if you do not find what you need, no problem, consult with booksellers and possibly they will have it in stock. 

If it’s Friday and you are in Amsterdam, do not miss the opportunity to visit this market – books are not everything they have, you can also find maps, postcards and old documents.

Where?

Spui is a small square in the center of Amsterdam, near the Singel Canal and only 15 minutes walk from the central station.

When?

Every Friday of the year from 10 am to 6 pm.

How to get to the Book Market:

From Amsterdam Central Station tram lines 1,2 and 5 (Spui stop) take you in just 5 minutes to Spui Square.
