In the heart of Amsterdam, the Flower Market, known in Dutch as Bloemenmarkt, located on the Singel canal is the only floating flower market in the world.

Located between the squares of Koningsplein and Muntplein along the Singel canal, historic canal surrounding the city in the Middle Age and which currently defines Seventeenth-century canal ring area of Amsterdam, since 2010 UNESCO World Heritage.

The Flower Market is one of the main attractions of Amsterdam, its magnificent location and uniqueness will make you find the market by chance during a walk through the city center, the stalls in the market are located in boat houses perfectly tied so you do not notice that you are on the water while you visit this “outdoors flower museum”

Open since 1862, every day hundreds of tourists, looking for a souvenir, and Amsterdammers buying their flowers come to this market, a mix of colors and flavors along over twenty florists, garden and souvenir shops that are open every day of the week.

Although the most requested flower is the tulip, the most famous of the Netherlands, whatever flower you are looking for: you will find it in this market.

An important thing to bear in mind is that there are strict restrictions on bringing live plants to other countries. The vendors in the market know this, however, and can set you up with packages of bulbs that have the necessary paperwork for transporting them back to your home country.

Be sure to get there before 4 pm, as this is the time most shops close their gates.
