Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

For those familiar with airport travel, Schipol will hold no surprises. A major European air hub and a large airport,  Schiphol has a mall, a museum, a food court and excellent facilities.  We would advise you to arrive 2 hours before your plane’s departure time so as to allow for (rare) queues and unanticipated problems.

Schiphol by Train

You can travel from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam Central station directly. There are around 5 trains an hour during peak times but only one an hour between 1-5am. The train takes 20 minutes to reach Central Station and a same day return costs €7.00. Buy your tickets from the yellow machines in the terminal. The station is located under the main airport hall and trains to the center depart from platform 3.

Schiphol by Local Transport

If you are staying near Museumplein or Leidseplein you can take a bus directly from the airport. The trip takes around 30 minutes and costs around the same as the train. Bus 197 costs €2.92 with a smart card, or €4.80 if you pay the driver directly. The 197 runs every 15 minutes during the day and the night buses N97 or N72 run hourly.

Schiphol by Taxi

As with any airport, taxis from Schipol are extremely expensive. The metre starts at €7.50 and a trip to Central Station will cost at least €40.

Unless carrying a large amount of luggage, we advise taking the train or bus.

Other Means of Transport

It is possible to travel by shuttle bus. The Connexxion Hotel Shuttle runs from over 100 hotels in the city center, twice an hour between 6am-9pm. The price for a single is €14.50 and a return €22.50. You can also rent a car at the airport or travel to and from the airport by bicycle.
